Research
Mission
The LIMES Institute hosts groups with major research expertise in
- Chemical Biology & Medicinal Chemistry,
- Development, Molecular Physiology & Genetics,
- Molecular Cell & Immune Biology and
- Membrane Biology & Biochemistry.
Using genetic model organisms (Drosophila, mouse), murine and human tissue culture cells and lipid and membrane biochemistry approaches, we aim at identifying and functionally characterizing novel key regulators controlling metabolism, cellular growth and local immunity. Chemical Biology approaches such as small molecule screening, combined with chemo- and bioinformatics, are used to identify novel chemical inhibitors which we use to modulate the function of these regulatory proteins in cells and model organisms. We are also interested in the identification of human patients with mutations in the novel genes that we have identified and characterized.
The LIMES Institute has been tailored to facilitate and accelerate progress in Life Sciences and Biomedicine using highly interdisciplinary approaches in the postgenomic era. In addition, the LIMES institute harbours core facilities essential for cutting-edge research in the life sciences, for the coordination of the LIMES teaching programs, for the IT administration and the public relations of the institute.
